Tuesday 12th March:  Discussion Group Meeting:  Love and Intimacy: How Easy, Comfortable Do We the 2G/3G Find it to be Close, and to Trust?

Network Member, Ido van der Heijden, will provide the introduction to this topic where we will explore our experiences as members of the Second and Third Generations. How easy and comfortable do we feel with intimacy, love, being close? How easy is it for us to trust others? An opportunity for Members to share their thoughts and experiences. 27th February:  Telling Tales Part 2. Esther Saraga, Naomi Levy and Merilyn Moos will speak about telling the story of the First Generation after the death of the First Generation.

In this pair of events we will explore some of the many issues, challenges and rewards the Second Generation experience when writing and researching the stories of the First Generation, during and after the life of the First Generation.
On 13th February  Naomi Levy, Janet Lew and Valerie Neal will share their experiences of working during the lifetime of their parent.
On 27th February Naomi Levy, Esther Saraga and Merilyn Moos will speak about working after the parent has died.

“Completing or Editing Your Family History” Course with Nick Barlay, Tuesdays 9th January – 13 February 2024

Two Members of the Second Generation will provide an introduction to this topic: Sue Smeding will talk about her work countering antisemitism in the Netherlands and Andreas Muller Hermann will describe how his 2G heritage has led him to work with refugees in Athens. This is an opportunity to share your own experiences of how your refugee roots have prompted you to act. If you would like to attend, please email davidwirth@secondgeneration.org.uk to book your place. Priority for the Network’s Discussion Group meetings is given to Network Members.

“Writing Your Family History” Course with Nick Barlay, Mondays 8th January – 12 February 2024

The Network is making available a 6-week writing course run by Nick Barlay, acclaimed author of Scattered Ghosts and a renowned facilitator of family history writing.  This course will be a practical exploration of writing a family history, and the issues raised for writers of the Second Generation.  The course will combine examples, discussion and brief writing exercises to enable participants to discover a form most appropriate for their unique and individual stories. Participants will share ideas, raise questions, and receive constructive feedback on their projects. This course will run for six weeks starting Monday, 8 January from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.  The course will cost between £150-£180, depending upon the number of participants. Payment will be made directly with Nick.  Please note that Network members will be given priority.
